When International Travel Is Anything But A Fantastic Voyage

Ten toilets, twenty-six cases of violent vomiting and diarrhea, and thirteen hours in the air…it gets no worse than that. On a recent flight from Santiago, Chile to Sydney, Australia the lavatories abroad the Qantas 747-400 were put to the test. Long flights can test your patience, but this might be a bridge too far. Upon landing, sixteen of the ill passengers were hospitalized, with three requiring removal from the aircraft by stretcher. Apparently someone didn’t listen to the ages old advice of ‘don’t drink the water’. Events like this reinforce my reason for flying first class. Thoughts of sitting in coach as all this went down is enough to horrify me.
