F-35B Completes 500th Vertical Landing. Sea Trails Up Next
On the 3rd of August, BF-1 completed the 500th vertical landing for the F-35B. BF-1 is the same aircraft that completed the F-35B’s first vertical landing, at Naval Air Station Patuxent River.
In the coming week, Developmental Test 2 begins. DT-2 is the second set of sea trials for the F-35B. Like the first set of at sea trials, DT-2 will take place aboard USS Wasp. DT-2 is the second of three planned tests, used to better define and expand the F-35B’s shipboard operating envelope for the USMC. Successful completion of DT-2 is key to USMC plans to declare Initial Operating Capability (IOC) in 2015.
